Although I hated the shit out of this when I first got it I think I gave it a pretty good run. 7 months, around 1300 miles. Both fixed and SS. The bike rides really well and fits me great, it’s just too heavy for what I want to do with it. Loaded as above it weighs right around 31.5 pounds, figure removing the 900 grams of rack gets it to 29ish pounds. That’s just too much weight. I’m planning on dumping this on Craigslist and getting a Wabi frame. Should be around 9-10 pounds lighter and more in line with my priorities.
So it’s been a few days, I’ve made a few adjustments and I think I can get along with the bike now.
I still need to adjust the chainring since it’s got some significant runout but overall everything else is working pretty great. There’s a definite kludge to get the fenders to mount in the rear due to the lack of a chainstay bridge but overall they mount easily enough and seem to work fine. I’m still getting the feeling that the bike is pretty overpriced for what you get. $579 and it’s all heavy/cheap parts with really low build quality. This bike comes with their FGFS crankset, which I was blown away to find out costs $74.99! This crank is pretty trashy, lots of manufacturing marks and really severe runout. I guess the 7075 chainring is nice but who really cares when it’s a 1/8 36t? This toothway/widthway is probably the least desirable ever.
This is the first new bike I’ve owned that actually felt slower during the first few rides. Stupid bike, you’re supposed to feel faster!
Right now I’m struggling with this State Bicycle Warhawk. The bike is
kind of a piece of shit. From the box it was poorly assembled; had a ding in the top tube near the seat tube cluster as well as some really annoying issues indicative of poor quality. Chief among them was the bent crank arm spider, slipping seatpost and jacked up welds. I’ve remedied what I can but I just can’t get comfortable on the bike. I’m not sure if it’s the fork or the wheelset but the bike just bucks around over any bump and generally rides like garbage. I’m going to give it one last shot this weekend with some front end adjustments and a bar swap. If it still sucks it’s time to ditch it on Craigslist and find a better frame.
Fuck this bike.
